Westhampton Day "Cooking" School

WDS Community Helper Series - (3's)
"Cooking with Gabe's Dad"

The school asked Patrick if he would participate in their 'community helpers' series. So far the kids were visited by the local fire department -- aside from playing on the fire truck the kids learned the importance of 'stop, drop, and roll'. A local Dentist also particpated and discussed the importance of taking care of their teeth. (Gabe loved the treat bag!)

Paddy decided to take a 'hands on' approach with the kids. With a lot of help from Brice, Ben and Paige they created four work stations. Each class rotated once through each of the stations. In the midst of all this we stressed the importance of trying new foods and introduced the concept of mise en place.

The stations consisted of:

  • Crescent rolls- they wrapped around hot dogs (Pigs in a Blanket)
  • Pasta Dough - they hand cranked and made Fettucini
  • Used the juicer and citris press to make Strawberry, Orange, Limeade
  • Dipped Strawberries and Bananas in Chocolate! (and Yogurt Dip)

Needless to say the teachers loved it and the kids had a blast!
